Recently, the highly anticipated ANDIGRAFICA exhibition was held at the Corferias Bogota Exhibition Centre in Bogota, Colombia, from 17th to 20th June. The UPG team showcased a range of advanced equipment and achieved great success.
The exhibited equipment including desktop hot stamping machines, desktop thermal label printers (direct thermal), desktop ribbon label printers (thermal transfer), handheld inkjet printers, rewinding machines and labeling machines, etc. These devices quickly became the focus of the exhibition thanks to their unique technical advantages, attracting much attention.
The thermal label printer (direct thermal) on display at this exhibition offers numerous significant advantages. In terms of operation, it features a simple structure and requires no maintenance. The standout feature is that it does not require a ribbon; simply install the label paper roll. This makes replacing consumables extremely quick and convenient, significantly reducing operational complexity and the likelihood of errors. Additionally, the machine's internal structure is relatively simple, resulting in fewer potential points of failure. In terms of cost, while thermal paper itself is more expensive than ordinary coated paper, the elimination of ribbon purchase costs makes it more cost-effective in scenarios requiring high-volume printing with low label durability requirements, such as retail receipts and logistics labels. In such cases, the per-label cost is typically lower than that of thermal transfer printing (label + ribbon). Furthermore, the printer offers faster printing speeds. By eliminating the mechanical structure required for ribbon movement, the printing process is more direct, enabling faster printing speeds and generally lower operational noise levels. It is worth noting that the price of this thermal label printer is typically lower.
The thermal transfer label printer on display at the event also attracted significant attention. Its key advantages include a wide range of compatible printing materials and diverse label options, supporting various label paper types such as matte paper, glossy paper, synthetic paper, PET, PVC, fabric labels, wash labels, and hang tags. When paired with the appropriate thermal transfer ribbon (wax-based, mixed-based, or resin-based), it can also print on standard coated paper at a relatively low cost. In terms of print quality, the printed content (text, bar codes, images) is transferred to the label material surface via the thermal melt ink layer of the carbon ribbon, resulting in a stronger bond with the material. This provides excellent resistance to scratching, wear, and chemical solvents (such as alcohol, oils, and cleaners), high-temperature resistance, and moisture resistance. The labels have a long shelf life and are suitable for applications requiring long-term storage or exposure to harsh environments, such as asset labels, industrial identification labels, outdoor labels, chemical labels and automotive parts labels, etc. Additionally, it offers high print quality, typically providing higher resolution (up to 600 dpi).
The ANDIGRAFICA exhibition not only provided participating companies with a platform to showcase their capabilities but also facilitated technical exchanges and collaborations within the industry. During the event, booths were constantly bustling with clients seeking consultations, and by the second day of the exhibition, all demonstration machines were sold out, with over 150 potential orders secured—a clear indication of the products' high market recognition. Through face-to-face interactions with customers at the event, we gained a deeper understanding of market demand differences, providing valuable guidance for further equipment development. Additionally, the hot selling of our products have significantly boosted our confidence in R&D. We sincerely thank all our new and returning customers for the trust and support. See you next event!
